PUPPY NOTES
Welcome to Puppy Class! Thank you for joining us and we hope that your journey over the next few weeks will be informative, practical and fun!
The work you are putting in now is extremely important and although time consuming, will ensure that your dog becomes a happy, contented and well behaved member of the family.
If you already have a dog and the puppy is the new addition, it is vital that the puppy is not favoured over and above the other dogs. In dog society each member of the family has his or her own place and knows where it belongs in the general scheme of things. If you favour your puppy over the existing dogs, this could well lead to various behaviour problems. Pick up the puppy as little as possible. By picking up the puppy you elevating it above them. Puppy has four legs, let it walk! Another reason not to pick up your puppy, especially if you perceive a situation as being threatening, is that you will transmit your unease to your puppy and it will pick up on this which could very well lead to a situation where the puppy becomes fearful. So often we come across miniature breeds where they have been picked up consistently by the owner and this has resulted in the dogs being yappy and aggressive towards other dogs and people. As we as humans are very much individuals and develop and learn at different rates, so too do dogs. Don’t compare your puppy to other puppies; let it develop at its own pace remembering to keep all learning fun for you and your puppy.
