Please note that should any complaints be received against you – these must be in writing. A full investigation will then be undertaken with both parties presenting their case. An independent judicator will be present. We believe that it is important to protect our Behaviour Advisors as well as the General Public.
- To only undertake behaviour cases that you are qualified for. A level 1 Behaviour Advisor, may not undertake any cases where there is aggression or obsessive behaviour present. Cases such as these to be referred to somebody that is qualified to assist the client, and where possible behaviour advisor to attend the session.
- To supply clients with an honest and totally professional service, which is conducted with non-judgment and empathy, and taking into account the client’s physical and psychological well-being and their views regarding their dog/s.
- To show all clients respect and understanding and work with them to assist overcoming the current behaviour concern.
- The methods used in modifying behaviour are those which are taught and used in the course, being positive reinforcement methods. Any techniques or methods that could inflict either physical pain, physiological distress, intimidation will not be tolerated. No contravening of any sections of the Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962. - For each and every client a Questionnaire must be completed before seeing the client. Thereafter, a Pre-Planner will be prepared. All clients to receive a written report within the stipulated time period – maximum 2 days unless otherwise arranged with client. A copy of all reports to be kept on file.
- To send a brief summary of the client session to vets where applicable.
- To keep in touch with client once a week for a 2 week period by email, to ensure that they receive the assistance they require.
- For the first year of your practice (or 12 client sessions), you are required to send us the Questionnaire and your Pre-Planner before seeing your client. Your final report to client will be submitted for approval before being sent to client.
- Where Level 2 Behaviour Advisors are concerned, prior to working with a dog with either aggression or obsessive behaviour, a full vet exam must have been undertaken. This would also be applicable in any cases where you suspect that there may be an underlying physical factor to the behaviour where Level 1 behaviour advisors are concerned.
- All information pertaining to client and the behaviour concern is totally private and confidential. No sharing of this information unless permission has been obtained. If information on a particular dog is shared with colleague, the actual behaviour being exhibited is discussed – no mention of names in order to protect your client.
- To treat all others in the canine field with respect and in a professional manner with no slander, defamation of character or libelous statements.
