In addition to being a fully qualified behaviour consultant, obedience & puppy instructor and TTouch practitioner, I have further certification in the alternative modalities and often bring elements of same into my daily interaction with clients with continued success. (see my CV on About Us)
In the past I used to offer courses on these alternative methods on a regular bases and stopped due to going overseas for a year and a half. Due to repeated requests for more courses I have decided to offer a course called Beyond Behaviour, where we look at other methods that can be used to help dogs with any emotional or behavioural concerns.
The course is suitable for the dog owner who just wants to help their own dog, or somebody that wants to find out more about working with dogs from the alternative aspect - right through to those that are working in the canine world as behaviourist, trainers, groomers, TTouch practitioners, pet sitter, dog walkers etc - each and every one can benefit from learning alternative aspects of working with dogs.
The course is run once a month, during the week, and sessions can take place any time from 8.30a.m. through to 6p.m. in the evening so you can arrange the time of your sessions to suit your life style. A maximum of two people per session is allowed and I prefer to teach on a one-to-one bases as each and every person and dog is different and often variations are required to suit the particular situation.
Only attending a session once a month ensures that you have the time to fully integrate and practice the elements of each session. Where necessary, comprehensive notes are supplied. The sessions are run on a consequetive monthly basis and are approximately 2 - 3 hours in duration. The fee is R800 per session which is payable monthly at each session.
The course is either held at my premises close to Lyndhurst, or if a practical session, at our Puppy School close to Greenstone Shopping Centre - Edenvale/Modderfontein area. There are no classes from 15th December through to 15th January. A certificate saying that you have complete the Beyond Behaviour course will be awarded.

The course consists of:-
Session One - Behaviour Consultation -
Only necessary if you have a dog/s where behaviour modification is required, otherwise this section can be skipped. If you do choose to have a behaviour modification session, you will receive on-going help on all aspects throughout the course. If you do not have a dog, another alternative is that this section can be used to further your knowledge about basic behaviour modification in dogs and the use of the House Rules is taught |
Session Two - Symbiosis 1
The mutually beneficial relationship between man, animals and nature and how it has changed and needs to be brought back into balance. This includes getting in touch with your Nature Animal and how we can work with the animals to learn and improve our own lives as well as work, appreciate and learn from Nature herself. |
Session Three - Symbiosis 2
Here we work more on getting in touch with Nature and helping to heal Mother Earth. To work with dogs that have any type of fear issue it is essential that we come from a place of total love, openness, kindness, empathy and are non judgemental. Work is done on learning to bring these qualities into our lives which includes basic meditation, visualization and learning the Art of Still, the importance of Gratitude. Opening your heart to love and forgiveness. Positive affirmations and journaling. |
Session Four - Tellington TTouch - Theory
If you have already learnt how to do TTouch, then this section is not necessary. For those of you doing this session you will learn how to stop a dog pulling (including behaviour modification notes) and the basic TTouches which will help to calm and relax dogs |
Session Five - Tellington TTouch - Practical with dog
As above, this sesion is optional if you have already done TTouch. If not, then you will work with your dog brining in all you learnt in the first section and putting it into practice. At this session you will also be taught about Calming and Appeasement Signals as well as signs of stress in a dog. The 5 F's of behaviour are included. |
Session Seven - Reiki for Animals – Part 1
Each and every one of us is a ‘healer’ in varying degrees. By learning the basics of Reiki and how to use this on animals you will be able to do even more for the animal. Reiki is simply a ‘hands on’ method of healing and you will receive atonements for Reiki 1and Reiki 2 so that you can do distant healing on the animal. The use of quartz crystals is brought in with distant healing. You will also be taught a method of self-healing which will enable you to do ‘self healing’ on yourself to work on any physical and emotional challenges you may be experiencing as well as on animals. |
Session Nine - Canine Massage and Pet Reflexology - with dog
Canine Massage Relaxation System – you will learn some of the basic canine massages moves to help dogs relax. These include Stroking, effleurage and petrissage. This is the foundation of massage work and includes kneading, muscle squeezing, wringing-up, vibration and skin rolling. You will also be shown the muscle rolling move used on the muscles on either side of the spine which helps to release stress in these areas very quickly. Pet Reflexology – it is not just us humans that can receive the benefit of reflexology – working on dogs paws can help the body to get back into balance, lower stress and fear and help with physical ailments. As with humans the whole of the dogs body is represented on the paws. |
