This is a course for anybody who is considering a career with dogs, giving you a solid foundation from which to take your career forward. The course takes place over a ten month period and is available two evenings per month with one practical session on a weekend morning, or two theoretical sessions and one practical session during the day.

The Presenter – Scotty Valadao I have been involved with dogs my whole life and have been working in the canine profession, on a full-time basis since 2002 and have received the certification listed below. My passion is sharing knowledge with owners and students, as, when you understand why a dog is engaging in a particular behaviour, you then have the knowledge and tools to change the behaviour. In order to share this knowledge I have been a guest several times on Radio 702, have written articles for various publications on different aspects of canine behaviour, was instrumental in starting the free general newsletter for owners under the auspices of the ABC of SA™ and host monthly workshops on the Tellington TTouch Method. Due to the success I have achieved with Storm Fear Phobia in dogs over the last five years, I am currently engaged in in-depth research to assist owners who have dogs with this terrifying phenomena. In addition, I am currently engaged in giving talks at various vets to share this knowledge and previously served on the committee of the ABC of SA™.

I have found that the combination of Behaviour Modification and Tellington TTouch obtains excellent results, and have worked with this combination for many years. I currently have an average of 25 – 35 behaviour consultations per month.

The Course A maximum of 8 students are admitted in each class in order to assure personal attention and for maximum learning. Certification is dependant on a thorough knowledge of theory and the divisions below. Students will be requested to do in-depth assignments of one breed from the different groups. In addition to the comprehensive theory detailed below, the course contains the following:-

Tellington TTouch TTouch serves to lower the stress levels and the Groundwork increases the dog’s confidence. Although the student will be taught the basic TTouch and can work on their own and other people’s dogs, students are not allowed to teach this modality to clients. In order to teach and give workshops the student will have to complete the TTouch Practitioners Course.

Role Play After the theoretical sections have been completed, the ‘real learning’ begins and students will be exposed to Role Play Consultations of various problem behaviours, in which they have to assess and give recommendations on. There will be a minimum of two of these per month in a class situation.

Theoretical Case Studies Again, after completing the theoretical sections, students will be given a minimum of two theoretical questionnaires to analyze and give recommendations on per month as assignments. Students who wish to do more of this aspect of the course may do as many as they wish.

VNA Course (Veterinary Nutritional Assistant – Sponsored by Hills Dog Food When students start working on the diet section and how diet can affect behaviour, Hills have kindly offered the above as part of the course. This is an in-depth course, not just on the Hills products, but on all aspects of dog food. An invaluable tool to have in your toolbox.

Case Studies Towards the end of the course, students will put their knowledge and experience gained into practice and a total of 6 case studies, using dogs other than their own. These will consist of a questionnaire from client, consultation, recommendations and a follow up, with client supplying comments on outcome.

Practical Sessions Throughout the period of the course there are 9 practical sessions in order that students can put the theory they have learnt into practice.
