PRACTICAL SESSIONS - As below - As our time in Cape Town is very limited, practical sessions for Module 1 take place on a Wednesday and Thursday. For the rest of the Modules the practical sessions are on weekends. Dates will be supplied on registration. These take place either in Parklands or Fallen Angels outside Melkbosrand

Full Day Practical Session 1
- Covering the ABC of having a well behaved Puppy and puts down a solid foundation for the future.
- Included in above, the practical sessions which covers all the basics :- These include Sit, Down, Stand, Bite Inhibition, Swap, Leave, Excite/Settle, Collar Grabbing, Stroking Procedure, Basic Wait, Basic Recall, Walking on Lead without Pulling including the Balance lead and Super Balance Lead, Dealing with Puppy Tantrums, Mouthing, Nipping, Picking pups up. Lure and Reward method of working and Fading of rewards. Changing and Preventing Jumping up, Food Bowl exercises to prevent resource guarding.
Full Day Practical Session 2
- Working with pups at Fallen Angels.
- Session of Tellington TTouch – the most wonderful modality for reducing stress in dogs especially when any fear behaviour is present and builds the bond between dog and owner. Please note that student will not become a TTouch practitioner – this is a 3 years course presented by Tellington TTouch (www.ttouch.co.za), however, will learn all the basics they will need to help their own dogs and work with shelter dogs etc.

Module 2
- Refining your skills of basic behaviour learnt in Module 1 - there are 2 sessions of this as it is essential that students have the skills to teach to clients in a proficient fashion.
- Stress, Arousal Levels, Threshold, Triggers ,Trigger Stackingworking with a dogs critical distance - seminar
- Exceptions to House Rules. When dealing with adult dogs, dogs that are fearul or slightly reactive, you will learn when to change, or omit the basic House Rules relating to the behaviour condition being discussed.
- Equipment - the various types of equipment that can be used and how to use same. Desensitizing a dog to both a Head Halter and a Muzzle.
- Separation Anxiety - wa person with a dog is offerered a free session for teaching purposes. Qualified behaviourist will work with the client. Students will be sent the Questionnaire prior to session, and a copy of clients report. Exceptions to House Rules will be discussed. A Question and Answer session will be held with student after the session.
- Professional Puller - Here a person with a dog that is a Professional Puller is offered a free session for teaching purposes. Qualified behaviourist will work with the client. Students will be sent the Questionnaire and a copy of report for client. A question and answer session will be sent to students.
- Stress, Arousal, Thresholds, Triggers. Various behaviour Protocols such as Premack, BAT etc and how to use them, as well as discussing the Pro's and Con's of same - seminar .
- Dogs fearful of people. Here a person with a dog that has fear of people is offered a free session for teaching purposes. Qualified behaviourist will work with the client. Students will be sent a copy of the Questionnaire beforehand, as well as a copy of the report to client. A question and answer session will follow the session.
- Dogs that resource guard people and objects - as above in full - full day workshop.
- Introducing two strange dogs - students dogs will be used. Followed by all Basic Behaviour exercises on own dogs.
- Introducing a Neutral dogs and a dog that is slightly reactive to other dogs. Here a person with a dog that is slightly reactive is offered a free session for teaching purposes. Qualified behaviourist will work with the client. Students will be sent the Questionnaire before the session, and a copy of the report to client. A question and answer session for students after the session.
- TTouch - working on own dogs and taking your skills learnt in Session 1 further.
- 4 Quadrants of Learning - why behaviour problems develop - seminar
Module 3
- Questionnaires and Pre-Plan. Students learn how to analyize a Questionnaire to determine as to why the unacceptable behaviour may be occurring and plan for the consult.
- Reports. Students learn how to put together a comprehensible Report for the client.
- Observations, critical distance, posture and tension patterns. Students will learn to take their skills of a dogs body language much further. Students will also learn how to do the Calming Procedure.
- Students will start to present the Demo's to fellow students. This is a wonderful way to reinforce your presentation skills and gain confidence for dealing with clients.
- Two Role Play Sessions. This is where students will act as the behaviourist based on a Questionnaire and put together their Preplan and report after the session.
- Conflict Resolution & Mediation. Students will learn their own personality type and be given additional tools to help them further their communication Skills. Social media manners will be discussed.
Module 4
- Students will present practical sessions to fellow students. This gives you further skills by way of presenting and working with clients.
- Two Role Play Sessions. Here students will present to Instructor as if a client. Questionnaires and Preplanners will be required. Full report to be submitted on completion.
- Three Case Studies - students will work with a client by themselves including Questionnaires, Preplan and Report. Each stage will be checked by office.
- Oral Exam - students will be given multiple choice questions based on various behaviour concerns to study before exam. Normally take place in the evening following a practical session.
THEORETICAL - Very comprehensive. Sections are sent to students a few sections at a time. Each Section contains an assignment based on the information contained in the Section. There are also several Quizes which are undertaken every few sections. This allows us to keep in touch with students and give them the personal attention they deserve.
No additional reading material is required as all contained in the course - however, we do supply links for students to read further, so they wish too. We are available to students Monday to Friday and welcome their interaction and any questions or querries.
